Neil Channing
Neil ´Bad Beat´ Channing (born 9 December 1967 in Reading, Berkshire) is an English professional poker player and author based in Battersea, London. He is the reigning Irish Poker Open champion.
Before turning professional, he worked as a bookmaker at various UK racecourses, but his prices were more generous than financially prudent.
A consistent high stakes cash game winner, only a series of odds-defying hands have prevented him from major tournament success - until he took down the 2008 Irish Open for over €800,000. He has amassed over $1.6 million in tournament prize money, including seven World Series of Poker cashes. He was one of the only British players to wade through the massive fields to cash in the WSOP main event both in 2004 and in 2005.
In the 2005 World Speed Poker Open, Channing outlasted both Korosh Nejad and Michael Greco in his heat before finishing on the bubble in his semi-final event.
As stated, in March 2008, Channing won the 2008 Irish Poker Open and €801,400 (over $1,200,000) against a field of 667 players. Channing is said to have bet £500 on himself at 100/1 to win this event.
Channing is a regular columnist for Bluff Europe Magazine and has also been the cornerstone of the 888.com Bootcamp.
As of 2008, his total live tournament winnings exceed $1,900,000.
Neil´s easy-going personality and charm -laden table talk is said to loosen peole up and coerce them to gamble… if you think that the man who didn´t so much as kiss the blarney stone as hew it from rock himself has a chance to win, you can get 3-1 over at 888sport.com for him to take down his heat!
